Curbside Roast Gold, Hanoi

Our first morning in Hanoi ... we're up early and just amazed at the bustling streets.
Hanoi

We're on our way out of the old quarter, over the other side of the lake to find the famous Pho restaurant appropriately just named "Pho". We get about a block from the hotel wandering down Hang Ma when there is a glistening orange up ahead that catches both our eyes .... then we see a duck hanging, a slab of crisp roast pork and .. what else is that .. the smallest, most delicious looking suckling pig we have ever to lay our eyes upon.

This is just a tiny stand which has 1 duck, the chunk of roast pork and 1 and a 1/2 suckling pigs hanging under a little light. We both gaze mesmerized for a moment, then point and indicate a good few inches with our hands, which is then what she chops off from the bottom of the pig. It's then chopped up into small pieces, wrapped in leaf and newspaper and off we go ...

We only make it as far as the lake, before we sit down to savour the roast gold ...
